BEAMING SPRING SCHOOL IN BUCHAREST ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE VALORISATION IN BIOECONOMY RESEARCH

From April 15 to April 17, 2026, BEAMING partners, together with INCDSB and the Faculty of Biotechnology of the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, held the Spring School on Knowledge Valorisation in Bioeconomy Research in Bucharest, Romania. The three-day programme brought together experts, researchers and stakeholders to explore how research results can be translated into societal and economic value within the European bioeconomy framework.

During the first two days, participants gained insights into key topics such as knowledge valorisation, systemic innovation, intellectual property valorisation, and strategic technological upgrading. The agenda also addressed practical dimensions of innovation, including case studies, good practice examples, break-even analysis in agricultural applications, and the role of collaboration models, clusters and research infrastructures in strengthening the bioeconomy ecosystem. Discussions further expanded to sustainability, environmental resilience, microplastics, and entrepreneurial pathways for circular bioeconomy solutions in rural regions.

The Spring School also combined theory with practice. Participants visited the USAMV greenhouses and took part in a dedicated workshop on Knowledge Valorisation Action Plans, which helped transform the lessons learned during the sessions into concrete approaches for future exploitation and impact creation.

On the final day, the programme focused on public-private cooperation, pathways to impact in the European R&I ecosystem, and the journey from ideas to results-driven organisations and agri-food impact. The event concluded with final reflections, certificates and next steps, reinforcing BEAMING’s commitment to building stronger capacities for knowledge valorisation in bioeconomy research.
